Over the past decade, SDTCM has actively worked to advocate for the inclusion of the Meetei/Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe list of India, as stated in Article 342(1) of the Constitution of India. This has involved engaging with legislators, cabinet ministers, the chief minister, relevant officials from both the Manipur and central governments, as well as other concerned authorities. SDTCM has employed various activities, such as lobbying and utilizing democratic methods, to exert pressure on the authorities and facilitate the necessary recommendation and support for this inclusion. Some of the activities are as follows:
Volunteers from the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) conducted a proactive visit to the offices and residences of the esteemed 12th Manipur Assembly Cabinet Ministers, Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and the present Manipur Members of Parliament (MPs). The purpose of this visit was to formally present a memorandum, urging the esteemed individuals to support and endorse the recommendation sought by the Central Government for the inclusion of the Meetei/Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Constitution of India.
